Marina Baie des Anges: Complete Guide to Architecture, Restaurants, Spa and Beaches

Marina Baie des Anges is one of the most recognisable architectural developments on the French Riviera. Located in Villeneuve-Loubet between Nice and Antibes, it combines four celebrated wave-shaped buildings with a yacht harbour, waterfront restaurants, beaches, spa facilities and a Mediterranean promenade.

Visitors can come for a few hours to explore the harbour and architecture or spend an entire day combining a waterfront walk with lunch, the beach and a wellness experience.

This guide covers the history of Marina Baie des Anges, its main facilities, restaurants, beaches and practical information for planning a visit.

The History and Architecture of Marina Baie des Anges

The Marina Baie des Anges project began to take shape in the late 1960s. Developer Jean Marchand and architect André Minangoy envisioned a new seaside district on approximately 16 hectares of former marshland, combining housing, commercial premises and a dedicated marina.

Construction continued for more than two decades. The first building, Amiral, was delivered in 1970, followed by Commodore in 1972. Ducal and Baronnet followed later, with the overall architectural ensemble completed in the early 1990s.

The defining feature of Marina Baie des Anges is its four large stepped buildings with sweeping curved façades. Their silhouettes evoke waves, sails and artificial hills, while the central part of the complex rises to approximately 70 metres.

The scale and architecture initially generated considerable controversy, but Marina Baie des Anges gradually became an architectural symbol of Villeneuve-Loubet and one of the coastline’s most recognisable landmarks.

In 2000, the complex received France’s Patrimoine du XXe siècle label. It is now recognised under the Architecture contemporaine remarquable designation.

What Can You Find at Marina Baie des Anges?

Marina Baie des Anges is more than a conventional residential development. It is a complete waterfront complex of approximately 1,300 residential units organised around the harbour, landscaped areas and public spaces.

At its centre is Port Marina Baie des Anges, currently configured for 515 boats. Croisette André Minangoy runs along the harbour, lined with restaurants, cafés, shops and local services.

Walking around the port is also one of the best ways to appreciate the architecture, as the proportions and curves of the four buildings change significantly from one viewpoint to another.

Wellness, beauty and fitness services are also available within the development. The residential buildings and residents’ private areas are not freely accessible to visitors, while the harbour, promenade, restaurants and public areas can be explored.

Visitors particularly interested in the architecture can also look out for guided Marina Baie des Anges tours organised periodically by the Villeneuve-Loubet Tourist Office.

SAM — the New Restaurant at the Former La Flibuste Address

SAM now occupies the address formerly associated with La Flibuste.

La Flibuste appeared among the Michelin-starred restaurants in the 2026 Michelin Guide France. The venue has since changed name and concept, however, and SAM should be regarded as a separate restaurant rather than automatically inheriting the former establishment’s Michelin status.

SAM now focuses on creative contemporary cuisine with a distinct Latin American influence, including ceviche, grilled dishes and signature cocktails.
